Why Music?
(A Let's Get Musical Special)
So, why music? Six diverse and creative individuals came together to ask if this was a fair question and if so, what might the answers be. By delving into their unique musical experiences, having group discussions and learning new skills, they tapped into music’s healing potential and its ability to bring people together, regardless of where they’ve come from.
All the music you’ll hear in the show was either composed or interpreted by the participants involved. Their work was the result of two weeks of creative sessions with a focus on collaboration and enjoying the power of music. So, if you ever find yourself wondering: “does music make us or do we make music?” or “what is music to your ears?” Then this is the show for you! This was all made possible by Manchester Adult Education Service and we thank them for their support. |

Wit & Wisdom
In Conversation with Cast & Creatives
We've teamed up with The Royal Exchange Theatre and our mate Fred to interview some of the cast & creatives behind "Wit & Wisdom", an anarchic night telling stories, talking into mics, playing games, testing jokes, creating music, and making mistakes, with the very serious ambition to make (non)sense of the role laughter plays in our lives.
Many thanks to Andy Barry (Director), Bill Connor (Composer & Performer), Oceana Julie Cage Nzene (Musician & Performer), Fred Yeomans (Interviewer), Morayo and the rest of Royal Exchange team who worked hard to make this show happen. |
Life Embracing Hope
(LLARC Special)
LLARC is the Later Life Audio and Radio Cooperative bringing together older people to share their views and produce audio content. Over the last week as a group we have learned how to develop and produce a collaborative podcast. Listen to our interviews, conversations and reflections on how hope lifts us out of difficult situations and circumstances.
This podcast was made possible by the EPSRC’s Telling Tales of Engagement Fund. A special thanks to openlab, LLARC and UKRI for their support in this project. |
Flags for Hope
We’ve teamed up with Cabasa Carnival Arts, delivering creative writing and storytelling workshops in 3 local Care Homes in Tameside so we can connect with elder members of our community, gather stories, ideas, and images around the theme of ‘hope’.
Cabasa then took those stories to their in-house artists and translated them into large-scale hand painted silk flags expressing the experiences of elder residents who’ve been acutely isolated through the pandemic. These flags will be toured to the grounds of the care homes in the summer as beautiful, powerful, site-specific installations which highlight the creativity and resilience in our communities.

Age-Friendly Burnage - Legacy Project
Age-Friendly Burnage is a neighbourhood partnership made up of local residents, community groups and local organisations working together to make Burnage a better place to live and grow.
The board of Age-Friendly Burnage spent a week with Sonder Radio learning new creative media skills and crafting a show that was broadcast on Friday of the same week! The boards funding ends in April 2020, so they wanted Sonder Radio to help them create a Legacy that would not only encapsulate what they've done so far, but could help them to get more funding in the future.
There's loads more content from the project, that will be posted over the coming months, so be sure to check out agefriendlyburnage.wordpress.com and follow them on twitter @BurnAgeFriendly for updates!

Moments That Changed Our World
The Elders Company, The Royal Exchange Theatre
Following the highly acclaimed The Space Between Us, The Royal Exchange's Elders Company returned for a radical new production in February 2018 and we sent our team down to review it.
A group of people aged 60 - 85 stand in the space. Between them, they have years of experience. Together they are navigating a constantly changing world. From the big political events to personal intimate moments, the Elders ask - what can history teach us about who we are and where we are going.

2017
Sonder Radio are currently delivering a project in partnership with with Ambition for Ageing. We will be working with groups of elders in Broughton, Langworthy, Seedley and Weaste.
We will be delivering creative, music based workshops in these areas over the next 3 months, having already delivered a session at Roman Court in Broughton. These workshops with help elders reminisce about their past and enjoy listening to the memories they have through the music they choose. The same piece of music can trigger a different memory within different people, so the workshops also aim to bring the elders together over shared memories.
There will be a celebration event at the end of the project in January, where we will bring together the different groups we have delivered workshops to within the Salford area. Please get in touch if you would like any more information.
Thanks to the following partners involved in this Ambition for Ageing project for the support of the workshops.
